Technical Consultant

Full-Time | Zwijnaarde, BE | Systems Management

About the job

What the job is about

As a Technical Consultant (Application Engineer), you are a part of the Miles Technical Team. This is a smaller team, with just 8 members, but it has a crucial and significant role within the company.

The role of a Technical Consultant is truly diverse, you don't know in the morning what you'll have done when you get home. But these are a few of the main responsibilities :

The first one is being the flying MTT member, one person on duty every week, who solves unforeseen problems, both towards customers as internal colleagues. By assigning one specific person, the team is more responsive and agile in dealing with these events.

Besides that, the team also offers technical consultancy to customers, giving advice on architectural matters, hosting and application needs, etc.

For some clients, the team is also responsible for the full application management, this means maintenance, installations, monitoring, performance investigations, etc.

Of course, the biggest aspect of your job is to manage the build, release management, and deployment of the application. Automation is a key aspect in the release process, for monitoring, testing, server setup, and middleware configuration.

These are the technologies you will be working with: Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, IBM WebSphere, Red Hat JBoss, Wildfly, Unix/Linux/Windows, Ant scripting, Ansible, Bamboo.

Your skills and interests

Preferably you are in possession of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT.

Because automation is an important aspect, knowledge of at least one scripting language is necessary.

You want to be in a customer-facing role and have the communication skills to do so.

You will be part of an international organization with international colleagues and customers, so it is essential you communicate well in English.

But your colleagues are all Belgian, so a basic level of Dutch is necessary to communicate with them.

The architecture is currently undergoing a change towards microservices and besides the DevOps team, MTT also plays a role in this. This role will grow and change in the following years, so an interest in k8s, Artifactory, and cloud technologies is a big plus.

What we offer

The opportunity to be part of a company that has been in business for over 30 years and doubling in size every 5 years with an informal environment in which you will get responsibility, it is expected for you to take initiative and share your ideas.

An extensive onboarding program for you to become familiar with the product and the organization.

The possibility to keep learning, build the skills that you want, and be the driver of your own career.

You’ll work in a modern state-of-the-art office which is easily accessible by public transport. If you come by electric car or bike, we offer safe charging stations and you can even use our free shared bikes to fetch a lunch!

Of course, an attractive salary package based on your knowledge and experience, with a company car.

And in a normal situation, coffee, water, and soft drinks are available at the office, occasional after works drinks, a BBQ in the summer, and lots of other fun team events.
