Technical Writer

Full-Time | Zwijnaarde, BE | Training

What the job is about

Do you love language and writing, but also find the software and IT interesting? In the role of Technical Writer, you can actually combine both.

As a technical writer, you write, review and maintain a wide variety of documents related to our software. This goes from installation guides, and end-user documentation to training material.

This means you will:

  • Work closely with business consultants and software engineers to gather information and knowledge.

  • Understand our product and translate this in clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.

  • Improve the incoming and backlog of API documentation.

  • Guard the documentation requirements and needs in general.

You’ll be part of the training and documentation team, a small but growing team with lots of possibilities and responsibility.

Your Skills and Interest

You have an independent and proactive attitude, so you can take ownership of your work and approach the stakeholders involved.

Communication skills, both written and spoken are essential. Besides that, an analytical mind is needed to understand the product and translate the given information in a well-structured way.

Good time management will help you in your job because you’ll follow the 2-weekly sprint planning of the software development cycle. You will also have to take other deadlines in regard.

Besides that:

  • Proficiency in English is a must. Proficiency in other languages such as Dutch, French, or German is a plus.

  • Some familiarity with software development and technical concepts such as API, SDLC, software architecture, and Javadoc, … would be great. But we expect at least a broad interest that crosses the technical and business boundaries.

  • Experience working within a docs-as-code workflow (e.g., GitHub) and/or within an API-based SaaS product is a plus.

What we offer

We would like to welcome you to an international and multicultural company that has been operating for over 30 years and is doubling in size every 5 years. Growth is our middle name, while we strongly adhere to our horizontal and open company culture.

You're in the drivers' seat of your own career, that's our motto. Your personal development is therefore paramount. During an extensive onboarding program of six months, we make you, with the support of your job coach, familiar with our product and the organization. Even after this period, you will continue to get opportunities to learn and develop yourself further. You’re never alone.

At Sofico you will also work in a modern state-of-the-art office that is easily accessible. We have plenty of safe charging points for your electric car or bike, and free shared bicycles available to pick up your lunch.

In return for your efforts, we offer an extensive salary package, including a company car with a fuel card, a bonus system, meal vouchers and group, and hospital insurance. Are you a sporty type? Bikelease is also one of the possibilities! The flexible office hours and opportunities to work from home provide the necessary flexibility within the company.

At Sofico we are strong believers in the power of a good cup of coffee. Water or soft drinks are of course also on the menu. We love our team events. Think after-work drinks, a BBQ, a family day, a company weekend, or a walking dinner with the whole company.
