28 march 2021: a first date for all running enthusiast to mark in their calendar. On this day, the next edition of the Sofico Gent Marathon, including a first ever passage through the historic heart of Ghent, will take place.

This spring, the Sofico Gent Marathon organizers were forced to postpone the event and search for an alternative date in the fall. Under the current circumstances it is no longer viable to host this event both safely and festively.

“It is a shame, but the only correct course of action. As a society, we must collectively take our responsibility and follow the measures and guidelines issued by the authorities. Getting COVID-19 under control requires a massive, joint effort. As organizers we are also responsible for guaranteeing the health and safety of the participants, our volunteers, the audience and everyone involved”. Says Greg Broekmans from organizer Golazo.

Tickets valid for 2021 edition

This spring, 6000 participants had signed up for the new Sofico Gent Marathon course, including a passage through the historic heart of the city. Their registrations automatically remain valid for the 2021 edition. This requires no action on the part of participants. The announcement of the new date is a sign of hope. We want to give the international and Belgian running community a first actual date to look forward to in 2021. Registrations for the 2021 edition will open in mid-September.

Name sponsor Sofico also looks ahead positively towards the 2021 edition. “At Sofico, we kept running. Our in-house running club has 40 members who go for a run near the office together during their lunch break or after work. An example of our new corporate culture, which appeals to many developers, Business Consultants and other talent. Healthy employees are happier and that’s something we go for” says Corinne Martens, HR Manager at Sofico.
