It looks like Covid-19 will be part of our society for some time to come. We continue to look ahead positively and have managed to work out an adapted and safe marathon format for the Sofico Gent Marathon 2021.

The 2021 edition will be organized as followed:

  • Multiple (11 ed.) run dates between 20/03 and 18/04;
  • Free start in waves of 30 minutes between 8:30 and 11:00 (max. 90 runners per start wave);
  • Fully signposted and officially measured course with timing;
  • Daily and overall results on the website;
  • Read all about the new concept.

The course

As far as the course is concerned, we are returning once again to the breathtaking and green original course along the Old Leie, through De Assels, the beautiful Park forest, the Zeven Dreven and the Blaarmeersen. We reserve the city passage for 2022.

Many runners have trained hard in the past period. The enthusiasm and the will to run is enormous. The hunger for a physical event is great. We want to satisfy that hunger with this modified, safe format. A mass event on one day is no longer realistic and moreover not a desirable scenario for many participants. Therefore, we are now taking the flight forward in a positive and hopeful way with this alternative scenario.

Practical information

Participants who were already registered will receive a personal mail with which they can choose a new date and time slot.  Is it not possible to participate during one of these dates in the spring? Then the registration is automatically transferred to the edition of 2022.

Monday, January 18 the registrations for the remaining places will open.

Is the event still not possible this spring? Then the registrations will automatically remain valid for the new date/edition 2022 of the Sofico Ghent Marathon.

We hope, together with you, that the prevailing corona measures are favorable to us and that we can welcome you all at the start.

Keep exercising and keep it safe.
