Remote working: that's how it's done here
In these exceptional times of seclusion and care, all businesses are looking for new ways to keep in touch.
Every week, we put a team in the spotlight. In this episode: our Systems team - and the broad and diverse collection of tasks they are responsible for.
Meet Thomas Van Steenkiste, Operations Team Coach
Q: Thomas, what do the Operations tasks entail?
It's all but a nine-to-five job, that's for sure. (laughs) We are responsible for the tooling used by Sofico staff, like Confluence or Teams, but also Exact, Git, Bamboo, Sharepoint, i.a.
We ensure performance and quality which includes pro-active monitoring and backup automation.
Q: That's not all, right? ;)
No indeed .. We also take care of customer requests like setting up VPN connections. This allows the customer and colleagues to connect to their desired environments - that is, if ISO allows it! (laughs)
To minimize inconvenience to customers or colleagues, we also regularly work on weekends or after business hours (e.g. maintenance). This Sunday (pizza!) for example, we were at the office to upgrade some critical servers. Including critical pastries of course!
Q: The Pro-active approach minimizes downtime?
Yes. Advanced monitoring and analysis prevent some units even noticing when a server went down. By reducing the overhead and fixing problems early stage, we create more time for new projects and overall improvements. I'm proud of my team. Thanks Robin, Mitch, Bernard and Carl!
