Wat ga je doen?
As an Application Engineer, you will become part of the Miles Technical Team. Which is a smaller team, with just 8 members, but it has a crucial and significant role within the company.
The role of application Engineer is truly diverse but can be divided into several bigger responsibilities:
The first one is being the flying MTT member, one person on duty every week, who solves unforeseen problems, both towards customers as internal colleagues. By assigning one specific person, the team is more responsive and agile in dealing with these events.
Besides that, the team also offers technical consultancy towards customers, giving advice on architectural matters, hosting and application needs, etc.
For some clients, the team is also responsible for the full application management, this means maintenance, installations, monitoring, performance investigations, etc.
Of course, the biggest aspect of your job is to manage the build, release management, and deployment of the application. Automation is a key aspect in the release process, for monitoring, testing, server setup, and middleware configuration.
These are the technologies you will be working with: Oracle; MS SQL Server; IBM WebSphere, Red Hat JBoss, Wildfly, Unix/Linux/Windows, Ant scripting, Ansible, Bamboo.
Wat kun je?
Preferably you are in possession of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT.
Because automation is an important aspect, knowledge of at least one scripting language is necessary.
You want to be in a customer-facing role and have the communication skills to do so.
You will be part of an international organization with international colleagues and customers, so it is essential you communicate well in English.
But your colleagues are all Belgian, so a basic level of Dutch is necessary to communicate with them.
The architecture is currently undergoing a change towards microservices and besides the DevOps team, MTT also plays a role in this. This role will grow and change in the following years, so an interest in k8s, Artifactory, and cloud technologies is a big plus.
